On the evening of February 24, SCAU held a video seminar with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil (hereinafter referred to as the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture). Officials from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as experts and scholars from Chinese and Brazilian universities and research institutions participated in the seminar through offline and cloud methods. President Liu Yahong attended the seminar and delivered a keynote speech. The seminar was presided over by Prof. Chen Letian, Director of the International Office.

The spokesperson of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture conveyed greetings and congratulations from Vice Minister Fernando Camargo. He stated that China and Brazil have established long-term partnership in the field of agriculture, and hoped that the two sides share beneficial practices in rural economic revitalization and explore innovative development models of agriculture and animal husbandry, such as bio-economy, digital and intelligent agriculture, etc. It is expected that more universities and research institutions from China and Brazil will sign MOU/agreements and implement specific projects to further and deepen exchanges and cooperation.
The spokesperson of Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology conveyed expectations from Vice Minister Paulo Alvim to China-Brazil agricultural scientific and technological cooperation. Agriculture accounts for 25% of Brazil's total economy, and it is of great significance for Brazil to enhance cooperation with China. China-Brazil agricultural cooperation has promising prospects. Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology will continue to vigorously support exchanges and cooperation of various types among universities, research institutions and enterprises of the two countries.
President Liu Yahong expressed her sincere gratitude to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology, and experts from China and Brazil for their strong support and active participation in this seminar. In her speech, she mentioned that in the post-COVID 19 era, both China and Brazil are in face of the challenge of improving economic growth and people's livelihood. How to apply new technology to improve output and quality of agriculture and husbandry is of great significance for: reducing global hunger and poverty, promoting rural economic recovery, coping with global risks such as climate change and natural disasters, and realizing green and sustainable agriculture and husbandry. SCAU is a national key university in China that is listed in China’s “double world-class university project”. The university has a long history of cooperation with Brazil and looks forward to expanding cooperation in agricultural education and training, personnel exchanges and industrial cooperation to make contribution to green, sustainable, intelligent agriculture and husbandry in China and Brazil.

In the academic report session, experts shared research outcome and legal policies for technological promotion and industrial development. For Brazilian part, Mr. Daniel Trento, Innovation General Coordinator, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply gave an Overview of the Brazilian Agro 4.0 Chamber and its Mechanism and Introduction of the Professional Training and Education Work Group (WG2); Director Sibelle Silva, the Innovation Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil gave a speech on Strategic Vision for Innovation in Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply.
For SCAU part, Deputy Director Yuan Juhua of the International Office introduced scientific achievements of SCAU, China-Latin America Agricultural Education, Research and Innovation Alliance (CLAERIA) and the potential cooperation prospects with Brazil. She stressed that the Alliance has actively promoted academic, research collaborations & cultural exchanges with Latin America since its establishment in December 2020.
Major speakers from SCAU are Prof. Zou Xiangjun, Prof. Zhou Zhiyan from College of Engineering,Prof. Zhu Qinlong from College of Life Sciences,Prof. Hu Lian from College of Engineering, Professor Liu Zhenzhen fromCollege of Material and Energy, Assoc Professor Ali Shauket fromCollege of Plant Protection, Assoc. Prof. Hu Wenfeng from College of Food Science. They gave reports on agricultural robots, unmanned farms, drones, biological breeding, food nutrition and food safety, new materials, and green pest control. The report received enthusiastic response. All participants said that the seminar has laid a foundation for the next-step Sino-Brazil agricultural and animal husbandry research and industrial cooperation.
