On August 25th, teachers and students from SCAU were invited to attend the online academic meeting about “Translating Plant Science Into Food Security” held by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman’s Centre for Biodiversity Research (UTAR-CBR). The conference was hosted by Mr. Goh Kang Ling from Division of Community and International Networking, UTAR. Prof. Wang Wujian, Director, Office of International Relations, teachers and students from SCAU listened to the lectures.
The report of Prof. Dr. Minoru Murata, Faculty of Science, UTAR, focuses on alternative splicing.
Prof. Dr. Ivan Galis from Institute of Plant Science and Resources [IPSR], Okayama University, Japan talked about the impact of COVID-19 on shortage of resources and labor, dealing a heavy blow to global food supply and food security. He emphasized on plant diversity, defense responseto pest, resistant genes found in crops and their wild relativesand proposed that crops can be improved through discovered resistant genes, breeding and genetic engineering.
