Exchanging Presents
On July 8th, 2019, Andrew Deeks, President of University College Dublin (UCD), together with Paul Fanning, Deputy Vice President for Global Engagement, Douglas Proctor, UCD Global Director,, Daniel O’Sullivan, Senior Global Manager-China, UCD Global, and Lillian Luo, Marketing and Partnership Coordinator, UCD China Global Center, visited SCAU. Liu Yahong, President of SCAU and Liao Ming, Vice President, held talks with the delegation.
There has been a long history of the friendly cooperation between SCAU and UCD. Below is a list of the main events:
1. In 2012, Cooperative Program for Bachelor of Science Degree by SCAU and UCD was approved by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
2. During 2016 and 2017, SCAU and UCD established the 2+2 Food Sciences programme and Horticulture programme.
3. In 2017, SCAU and UCD signed the Memorandum of Understanding in the hope of building up the joint institute,Hu Chunhua, then Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC and Richard Bruton, then Minister for Education and Skills, Ireland witnessing the signing.
4. In 2019, SCAU and UCD signed the Agreement promising joint efforts in the establishment of the SCAU-UCD International College.
President Liu believed that with the support of the governments of both countries, the future cooperation of SCAU and UCD will be a great success.
President Andrew Deeks expressed his gratitude to President Liu for the warm reception and was pleased to visit SCAU for the second time after his first trip in 2014. He hoped that through introducing the educational ideas and talents training approaches and faculty of UCD to China, UCD is willing to construct the joint institute and co-cultivate high-quality international talents with SCAU, thus accelerating the globalization of education.
