On March 21, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Mr. Sam K. Kutesa and his wife Mrs. Edith G. Kutesa visited SCAU, accompanied by Mr. Yang Tao, the counselor, International Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PRC, Mr. Zhang Haibo, Deputy Director, Protocol Affairs Division, Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, and President of Guangzhou Dongsong Energy Group Co., LTD.
President Chen Xiaoyang welcomed the delegation had meeting with the delegation. During the meeting, Professor Chen Xiaoyang delivered a welcome speech after introducing the honored guest. He showed his sincere respect and greetings to the delegation. He introduced the history and the features of SCAU. He also emphasized that African countries and China are with a great relationship in a long run. As a famous agricultural oriented university in China, SCAU is willing to join in the bilateral agricultural cooperation as a science& technology strength.
Whereafter, Vice President of SCAU, Professor Liao Ming, presented the main information of SCAU in detail. He presented the long history, strong faculty, strong research strength, competitive talents cultivation, extensive international exchanges and the beautiful campus scenery of SCAU. He also introduced the international agricultural training course established by the Chinese government with the cooperation of UNDP, FAO and WFC in SCAU in specially.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Kutesa thanked the counselor of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the cordial hospitality of SCAU. He explained his intention by this visit to China. Uganda treats China as one of a most important partners and he is willing to promote the bilateral agricultural science and technology cooperation between SCAU and Makerere University in Uganda. He hoped to establish close cooperation on science research field between SCAU and Makerere University, which he believes will lead the major force in science and technology into a strategic cooperation of the two countries. Mr. Kutesa also warmly invited SCAU representatives to visit Uganda during the meeting, and both side agreed to promote and implement this cooperation in action soon.
After the meeting, the delegation visited University History Museum and the exhibition of science and technology achievements. The delegation was amazed by the university’s remarkable history, outstanding achievements and solid strength in scientific research.
