South China Agricultural University (SCAU) Library was established in 1953, and the new exiting building was completed reconstruction in 2006, with a total area of 36,000 square meters. The beautiful and advanced library provides readers with a first-class learning environment.

The collections in the library cover agriculture, engineering, liberal arts, basic sciences, economics, management, law, education, history and philosophy and other subjects. Tropical, subtropical agricultural science and biological science are the most abundant literature collections. There are 13 browsing rooms, with more than 1800 reading seats, which provide browsing, borrowing, retrieval, and copy services. The total of service time is 85 hours every week.

Up till April 30, 2007 the collection of the library increased to 3426,200 volumes, including 1,744,500 volumes of paper resources, and 1,681,700 volumes of electronic resources. In 2007, 2700 kinds of Chinese periodical, 533 kinds of foreign language periodical, and 18000 kinds of electronic periodical were ordered. At the same time, 49 important domestic and foreign databases were also introduced. What’s more, there are also 12 characteristic databases constructed by SCAU library.

SCAU library establishes 6 departments, namely office, circulation department, periodical department, information department, system department, cataloging department. At present there are 87 faculty at SCAU library, including 12 associate professors, teachers who own a master's degree or a bachelor's degree account for 74.7%.

On February 23, 2004, SCAU Library set "Digital Document and Information Assurance System", which was a part of the “15" and “211-Project”，and two years later the library successfully passed the check of this project. Acceptance by this project, indicating that the advanced digital library platform of information resources management and services has been achieved remarkable results. Now, the library has been in the forefront of libraries of agricultural colleges and universities in China.
