College of Agriculture is one of the key colleges of our university. Over nearly a hundred years of development, the college has made outstanding contributions to our nation, especially to agricultural production in the tropical and subtropical area of South-China.

Professor Ding Ying, the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Wu Zhuonian, Professor Liang Guangshang, Professor Huang Caowu have devoted themselves to the study of food production of Guangdong, the new technique of rice planting, the innovation of farming system and achieve great success in both theory and practice. Moreover, they all become renowned professors in our whole country.

From 1952 till now, our college has a total number of more than 7000 graduates, including more than 20 with a Ph.D. degree and more than 100 with a Master’s degree. Graduates can be found everywhere in China and even in many other countries.

There are 2 Bachelor’s programs provided for undergraduate in the college. They are agriculture and bionomics. Besides, the college offers four Master’s programs in Crop Planting and Cultivating, Crop Inheriting and Breeding, Bionomics and Tea Science, and three doctoral programs in Crop Sciences, Crop Genetics and Breeding, Bionomics. College of Natural Resources and Environment was established in 1996. It is made up of 7 departments: entomology, plant pathology, pesticides sciences, soil science, crop nutrition, environmental science and engineering, pharmaceutical engineering. It has 18 research labs and 5 teaching and research practice bases.

College of Natural Resources and Environment offers 8 doctoral programs, 7 master’s programs and 5 bachelor’s programs and 1 post-doctoral research program. It has 1 national key discipline, 1 ministerial key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture, 2 Guangdong Provincial key disciplines. And it has one key laboratory of the Ministry of Education and one lab of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In 2005, it registers 2,217 students, including 1619 undergraduates and 598 graduates. The number of faculty and staff reaches 150, of which 30 are professors. 93% of the total number of teacher has gained master’s degree or above. There are 61 teachers with a doctor’s degree and 37 with a master’s degree.

At present it preserves more than 5,000 plant samples, over 500,000 insect samples, over 2,000 soil and mineral rock for teaching and experiments. The library in the college possesses over 30,000 books and periodicals in Chinese or foreign languages.

The College always places great emphasis on academic research. Currently, the college has obtained over 600 academic projects, including 63 national projects, 25 international cooperative projects, 125 ministerial and provincial projects. The total research funds are worth more than 90,000,000 RMB. College of Life Sciences was set up in 2001. The college offers two Bachelor’s programs in Biology Technology and Bioscience, three Master’s programs in Botany, Biochemistry and Molecular-biology, Biophysics, two doctoral programs in Botany and Biochemistry and Molecular-biology. The college has been broadening teaching and research domain, enlarging the scale of student enrollment and improving the teaching quality. In addition it has made great achievements in scientific research. Up to now, the college has set up a multidisciplinary system with agricultural economics and management as its core.

College of Engineering was set up in 1992. The college forms a multi-level teaching and research system. The college has gained a good reputation and strengthened its academic status in China.

College of Engineering consists of department of agriculture engineering, department of mechanics engineering, department of electronic information engineering, department of vehicle engineering, department of automation, department of engineering basic teaching, engineering institute, teaching lab, mechanics engineering center and department of continuing education. It also has one post-doctoral research station in agriculture engineering and offers 6 doctoral programs, 6 master’s programs, 1 engineering master’s program and 10 bachelor’s programs. Now the number of undergraduates and graduates in this college is more than 3,300.

The college has a teacher’s team with top-level academic ability. At the present time, it employs 160 faculty and staff, 69% of which has obtained master’s degree or above. Agricultural mechanization engineering is the key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture and Guangdong Province. In recent years, the college has built teaching labs, purchased a large quantity of instruments and facilities for experiment and teaching.

For long, the college has carried on international cooperative projects and national scientific projects. College of Animal Sciences consists of Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, Department of Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Science, Department of Animal Production and Management, Department of Aquiculture and Department of Silkworm Science. The college has a post-doctoral research station in farming science, one ministerial key laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture in Poultry Disease Prevention and the lab for Zooblast Engineering affiliated to the key opening laboratory of Department of Education of Guangdong Province in Modern Bio-technology.

At present, the college offers two doctoral programs in Animal Nutrition and Feed Science and Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Science. Besides, there are five Master’s programs in Animal Nutrition and Feed Science and Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Science, Zoology, Aquiculture, and the Breeding of Special-type Economic Animals, and three Bachelor's programs in Zoology, Silkworm Science and Aquiculture. College of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 1987 and got its present name in 2001. It consists of department of general veterinary medicine, department of preventive veterinary medicine and department of clinic veterinary medicine. College of Food Sciences consists of Department of Food Science, Department of Bio-engineering, Tropical and Sub-tropical Food Research Center, Laboratory Management Center and one milk factory.The college employs 65 faculty members，of whom are 11 professors, 22 associate professors. College of Forestry traces its history back to 1909. That is the beginning of higher education of forestry in Guangdong. In 1988, it got its present name.

College of Forestry includes 4 departments: forestry, landscape gardening & city planning, forest resources & tourism management, wood science & engineering. Now the college offers 3 doctoral programs (botany, ecology, agricultural mechanization engineering) and 7 master’s programs.
