Wu Hong serves as Vice-president of South China Agricultural University. He is professor in Botany.
Wu was born in Jiangxi Province in February 1963. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1984 from Northwest University and a Ph.D. in Botany from College of Life Sciences of Northwest University in 1994. He worked at a post-doctoral research station in the Swiss Federal Higher Institute of Technology in Zurich from Jan. 1997 to Jan. 1998.
From February 1999 up to now, he worked in South China Agricultural University and served successively as Director of Teaching and Research Office, Deputy Dean of College of Life Sciences, Director of the Center for Medicinal Plants Research, and Director of Graduate School in South China Agricultural University. From February 2002 to February 2003, he did cooperative research in Department of Plant at Oklahoma State University, U.S. (OSU) as a post-doctoral researcher.
Wu is now a member of Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Central Committee, concurrently Vice chairman of Guangdong Provincial Committee. His other positions include: member of the Editorial Board of Herbal, Tropical and Subtropical Plant Journal and Progress in Plant Science; Journal Reviewer of Chinese Science, Journal of Horticulture, Forest Science, Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, Planta Medica, HortScience and so on.
Wu has undertaken over 10 research projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, international cooperative projects, provincial and ministerial level research work. He has published over 60 papers, including more than 20 indexed by SCI, EII. In 2004, he was chosen as candidate for Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Youth Foundation.
